The Coalition for Affordable Housing presents: 10 key points that can be promoted TODAY for a social housing policy in Israel.
1. Do not segregate luxury neighborhoods from poor ones, but rather strive for a social mix.

2. Anchor the right to housing in legislation, not ad-hoc solutions.

3.   Rehabilitate and improve public housing.

4. Reinstate the budget for housing assistance.

5. Encourage new construction in combination with affordable housing.

6. For those who cannot afford to purchase a home – create alternatives that enable long-term rentals.

7. Invest in urban renewal while maintaining affordable housing in city centers.

8. Use state land as a social resource, not an economic one.

9. Strengthen planning institutions and make them more efficient, while implementing social considerations in the planning process.

10 Points for Promoting a Social Housing Policy
Attorney Gil Gan-Mor, Head of ACRI’s Right to Housing Project: “The government does not need to reinvent the wheel. The path to realizing the right to housing and to promoting a social housing policy is already known: social rights organizations and relevant professionals have solutions, which are the result of many years of research and legal work. At the end of the day, it’s all a matter of deciding whether to change the current policy and to avoid repeating the mistakes that have been made thus far.”
