ACRI Demands Clearer Instructions from Home Front Command

Authorities must ensure full instructions for the protection of workers and people using public transport in the south

A check carried out on December 30, 2008, by the Association of Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI) has revealed that the Home Front Command does not have a full set of instructions for the protection of workplaces for workers defined as “essential workers” in the country’s conflict-ridden south. It is not at all clear if there are protected areas in all workplaces and there is no definition of the maximum distance from the workplace and the time it takes to reach them from the workplace in the event of an attack.

In addition, there are no instructions at all for passengers or drivers in public transport on how to behave in the event of a siren or bombing.

Hadar Namir, the Director of ACRI’s Public Hotline, made an urgent request to the Home Front Command to issue the missing instructions so as to ensure that there are accessible and properly functioning sheltered areas in all southern region workplaces defined as essential
