Demonstrators, Know Your Rights (July 2011)

Following recent efforts by the police and authorities to suppress some of the “tent protests” in ways that harm the rights of demonstrators to freedom of expression and freedom of protest, the Association for Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI) has produced a pamphlet on rights of demonstrators (PDF).

The pamphlet includes answers to questions such as: Is it legal to set up a protest encampment? Is a permit required to set up an encampment? When does a demonstration require a permit? I was arrested. What are my rights? And so on.

The pamphlets are being widely distributed in various protest encampments across Israel and through social networks. Below is the English translation. Feel free to download, forward, and print it – demonstrators need to know their rights. You can also download the PDF directly from ACRI’s website.
