ACRI was the first and remains one of the few human rights organizations in Israel to work with the security forces – influencing those professionals who encounter human rights dilemmas in their difficult and complicated work. In response to reports of police brutality, use of excessive force, and the lack of due process protections afforded to suspects and detainees, ACRI developed a human rights education program for various branches of the security forces – the Border Patrol, Immigration Police, the Israel Police, and the Prison Service.
Through workshops and seminars, ACRI seeks to build awareness of and commitment to human rights principles among security forces personnel, while providing them with the necessary skills and knowledge to put this commitment into practice. The security forces are, by the nature of their work, forced to deal on a daily basis with the often-conflicting objectives of maintaining public safety and security while respecting the rights of those who pose a threat to that security. Through our educational workshops, ACRI promotes awareness and understanding of the dilemmas faced by security personnel and provides participants with the tools to balance their professional duties with respect for human rights.
