We won’t back down

Dear friends,

This evening, we were shocked to learn from a press release that Education Minister Naftali Bennett is calling for the cancellation of our conference planned for tomorrow, on the issue of workers’ rights in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and the Center for Educational Technology.

We have clearly reached a new low. The man responsible for the education of all of Israel’s children is working with Im Tirtzu, a movement whose sole purpose is to undermine Israeli democracy.

We turned to the Attorney General and requested that he immediately instruct Bennett not to intervene and not to forbid employees connected to his office from participating in the conference. Just two months ago, the Attorney General stated the importance of a dialogue between the civil society organizations and the State authorities, which includes the participation of senior public officials in conferences and events like the one scheduled for tomorrow.

Neither the Education Minister nor Im Tirtzu will deter us from continuing to defend human rights. We won’t back down.

Today, more than ever, as the government attempts to silence us, we need your partnership to defend and strengthen Israeli democracy. Donate now and send a clear message to Minister Bennett and his friends at Im Tirtzu: Anyone who cancels a conference on worker’s rights due to the participation of a human rights organization is a direct threat to democracy.

Yours,
Sharon
