CERD Report 2008 Condemns Human Rights Violations, Inequalities

Based on reports from Israeli NGOs such as ACRI, the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Racism (CERD) recently published a report on Israel’s implementation of the committee’s concluding observations. Among the topics addressed in the report were the inherent injustice of the Citizenship Law, which prevents Israeli citizens from living with their Palestinian spouses (and spouses from certain Arab countries) in Israel; restrictions on the freedom of movement of Palestinian residents of the Occupied Territories, and continuing inequalities between Israel’s Arab and Jewish populations, including the plight of the Negev Bedouin. Several of ACRI’s activities were cited in the report.
