ACRI to Education Minister: Protect Academic Research

ACRI calls on Education Minister Gideon Sa’ar to safeguard freedom of academic research first and foremost, not only donations to institutes of higher learning

Following recent attacks on Israeli academia, ACRI calls on the Minister of Education, Gideon Sa’ar, in his capacity as Chairman of the Council for Higher Education to defend academia in Israel.

According to ACRI Executive Director, Hagai El-Ad: “The necessary response to the organized attacks on academia must be a clear and decisive stand by the Minister of Education in support of the values of pluralism and academic freedom. The Education Minister’s announcement earlier today is not sufficient; Minister Sa’ar can not hide behind weak responses regarding a fear of losing academic funds. Academic research, free from political pressures and influences, is not only a necessary condition for academic excellence, but also for the existence of an open and democratic society. “
