Muhammad Abid was five and a half years old when he lost sight in his right eye in Issawiya. Muhammad, now aged seven, has been laughed at by his classmates since the injury. He was not a hero, in their view, because he does not belong to any organization. They call him ‘cross-eyed’ and the doctor says that over time his brain may lose control in the affected eye. According to his father Jamal, Muhammad was shot by Border Police officers who were on routine patrol in the village. “The soldiers were on their routine patrol, there was nothing in particular going on, there were no demonstrations. In any event one bullet was fired, and that bullet hit him.”
