{"id":593,"date":"2008-12-30T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2008-12-30T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"593"},"modified":"2008-12-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2008-12-30T00:00:00","slug":"damage-inflicted-on-civilian-population-in-gaza-must-stop","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/law.acri.org.il\/en\/2008\/12\/30\/damage-inflicted-on-civilian-population-in-gaza-must-stop\/","title":{"rendered":"Damage Inflicted on Civilian Population in Gaza Must Stop"},"content":{"rendered":"<div lcass='pre'>ACRI protests against the severe damage caused to the civilian population in Gaza as a result of Israel\u2019s military operation, and demands that attacks aimed at civilian targets be brought to an immediate end.<\/div>\n<p>The distinction between civilians and combatants is a fundamental principle of human morality and a central tenet in international humanitarian law (the laws of war). As such, attacking or bombing a civilian population is strictly prohibited &#8211; whether in Gaza, Sderot, or anywhere else.<\/p>\n<p>In light of the reports on the heavy toll taken on Palestinian civilians who were not involved in the conflict, including children and women, the IDF&#8217;s statement that \u201cthe civilian population is not the target\u201d is not sufficient.
