Along with the opening of the new branch \u2212 part of a plan to improve postal services in East Jerusalem \u2212 the village streets were given names and the houses received numbers. These developments followed a petition to the High Court of Justice, submitted by residents with the aid of the Association for Civil Rights in Israel. The occupation of the West Bank and the regime of\u00a0discrimination are bolstered by doublespeak and efforts to silence opposition. Affordable housing is\u00a0nowhere to be found and water has become a luxury. Additionally, Israel\u2019s decision to join the UN\u2019s Convention on the\u00a0Rights of Persons with Disabilities in September demonstrated its willingness to be more accommodating and\u00a0reduce discrimination against people with physical or mental impairments, ACRI said.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"LTR\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><br \/>\nACRI Opposes the Disqualification of Election Campaigns<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"LTR\"><a title=\"blocked::http:\/\/www.israelnationalnews.com\/News\/News.aspx\/163128#.UNBm-nPjn6R\" href=\"http:\/\/www.israelnationalnews.com\/News\/News.aspx\/163128#.UNBm-nPjn6R\">Concerns Over Freedom of Speech After Ad Campaign\u00a0Disqualified &#8211; December 13, 2012 (Israel National News)<\/a><\/p>\n<p dir=\"LTR\">However, Dan Yakir, the\u00a0legal advisor\u00a0of the The Association for Civil Rights in Israel, while agreeing that the slogan might have\u00a0been distasteful, holds that the election committee does not and should not have the authority to dictate a party&#8217;s\u00a0campaign\u00a0adsunless there is a clear incitement to violence. &#8220;The campaign of Otzma LeYisrael is obscene, and its clear purpose is to\u00a0delegitimize the Arab public,&#8221; said Yakir.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;However, the decision to reject the\u00a0ad campaign\u00a0raises objections,&#8221; he added, saying that Rubinstein&#8217;s decision, &#8220;was given\u00a0with a lack of authority, since the law does not authorize the Chairman of the Election Committee to intervene in the content\u00a0of\u00a0billboards. This is problematic mainly because this is not the way to deal with incitement to racism. Political statements\u00a0deserve wider constitutional protection &#8211; during elections in particular. To begin with, it was taken without the necessary\u00a0authority, as the law does not grant the chairperson of the Central Elections Committee authority\u00a0to interfere with the content of billboards. The pre-court-appearance arrest period for the 14-18 age group will remain 48 hours.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"LTR\">In 2010, the Association for Civil Rights in Israel, Yesh Din and the Public Committee Against Torture in Israel petitioned the High Court of Justice over the disparity between incarceration times for Palestinians and Israelis.
