{"id":270,"date":"2005-09-19T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2005-09-18T22:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/225"},"modified":"2011-07-10T15:37:04","modified_gmt":"2011-07-10T13:37:04","slug":"acri-attorney-one-of-top-ten-people-positively-influencing-economy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/law.acri.org.il\/en\/2005\/09\/19\/acri-attorney-one-of-top-ten-people-positively-influencing-economy\/","title":{"rendered":"ACRI Attorney: One of Top Ten People Positively Influencing Economy"},"content":{"rendered":"<div lcass='pre'>ACRI Attorney in List of Top Ten People Positively Influencing Israeli Economy <\/div>\n<p><strong> ACRI Attorney Sharon Abraham-Weiss was chosen by Israel`s leading business magazine, The Marker, as one of ten people who have had the most \u201cpositive influence\u201d on issues relating to social and economic welfare in Israel. <\/strong> According to The Marker:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Attorney Sharon Abraham-Weiss, from The Association for Civil Rights in Israel, is the leading attorney in the field of workers&#8217; rights, and social and economic rights. Over the last two years ACRI has worked successfully to: cancel legislation initiated by the Ministry of Finance which linked parents` military service to the level of child welfare benefits; fought to prevent the inclusion of labor courts in the general judicial system; and worked within the framework of the \u201cForum for the Enforcement of Worker&#8217;s Rights\u201d to amend the Minimum Wage Law and ensure its enforcement.<\/p>\n<p>Abraham-Weiss was a leading figure in the submission of the Supreme Court petition by three social change organizations against the cuts in the guaranteed income stipend. The petition engendered a public debate on what constitutes a threshold for a \u201cminimally dignified existence\u201d; the level of state responsibility for ensuring that this threshold is upheld for its citizens; and the level of involvement of the court in legislative decisions. Together with other organizations, Abraham-Weiss worked to promote legislation that will impose legal sanctions on employers who fine their workers, and succeeded in achieving Knesset approval for a law obligating employers to hang a poster detailing workers&#8217; basic rights in the workplace.
