Freedom of Movement
You have reached ACRI’s archive, updated with our activity up until 2018. For more recent posts, please visit our current website here.
One of the basic rights most consistently infringed upon in the Occupied Territories is freedom of movement, especially since construction of the Separation Barrier. As a result of the Separation Barrier, whole communities have been isolated and travel has become contingent upon access to checkpoints maintained by the IDF. This restriction of movement affects access to schools, hospitals, family members, and employment while only further solidifying the distinction between Israeli citizens and those living under the Occupation.
ACRI utilizes the courts to ensure accountability at border crossings in order to protect the dignity of the Palestinians that rely on them and to oppose the construction of new roadblocks. ACRI also advocates within the legal system on behalf of Palestinian activists and human rights defenders to oppose bans on travel outside of the territories based on their status as activists, particularly when the information used to defend such a decision by the State is undisclosed.
